We arrived at Heathrow airport at about 6:20, but we are now on the local time, which means that we are now an hour behind SA. It was a lovely clear sunny day and coming in to land, you see all the little towns, lovely (small) farms and the River Thames.
We got thru customs very quick and the officials were very helpful and friendly. Then we walked (!!!) all over the terminal building as SAA lands now at terminal 2, but still need to collect the luggage at terminal 1. But it was very nice, we waited only 2 minutes for our luggage!
We had to go to the train terminal downstairs. But instead of taking the train direct, which is what I thought it would be, we had to take the train to Kings' Cross and then change over onto another train there.
Now it went very quick..we bought our tickets, got onto the train which took about 40 min.
Out on at Kings Cross (which I have been to before with Les when we came to London 15yrs ago, still being pregnant with Timmy ....now....am there with 15yr old teenager!!) we also walked over the other terminal.
At Kings Cross
Here we got our tickets for EDI. The most amazing is that you ask anybody at information or an ofiicial and they are very helpful. They are so used to absolute thousands of tourist getting lost. It is very nice to understand them at least. It would have been chaos if we went to an European country.
So....still on our great move. Our train is now to depart at 9, being about 8:40, we bought coffee. (Very strong medium cup which is their 'small') but we realised that is not a good thing. Out hands are full and a cup of coffee is now an added thing to carry!!!
Then, off to platform 2 to get our train. We were supposed to be on a first class ticket so we had to sit in Standard. The conducted would not let me upgrade, so we were stuck. The fare structure does not makes sense at all. Anyway, we were stuck and made the most of our trip.
Along the way .... I will the names of the towns we passed on the way back.
Timmy listening to music.
It took 9h00 to 14:40. We were slightly late as there was a problem on the track. We were meant to arrive at14:20 at Waverley station. It is a lovely big building, made modern in the old way.
