Stirling castle on Monday

We did a lot of sightseeing yesterday. 

We started off with Sterling castle. It is a magnificent buildings high on a hill so that you could see the enemy coming.

Inside the banquet area. The ceiling is made from mature oak trees and it is made in the principal of a boat. So it is like an upside down boat. Tapestries hand on the walls. Obviously for warmth as the buildings are make out of sandstone. It was very funny, because the extensions to the castle are called 'new' made 300 years ago. 

The chapel is very plain but with lovely painted ceilings.  

More detail to the ceiling. 

Military museum.....the castle was occupied until the 1960's by the Army. This is an ancient kilt, socks and shoes, that's shown. It did not say how old. The shoes are like flat ballet shoes with red leather lining.
